Funglish Recess (December 4th, 2024)
Hello everyone. Here is an update from Minami JHS Funglish.
This week we had Funglish Recess in the Funglish Room again. We played a card game called Go Fish. In this game, we can practice the phrase "Do you have~?" and saying numbers in English.

Funglish x School Nurse's Office
Hello everyone. Today, I want to introduce our collaboration between Funglish and the School Nurse's Office.
These decorations were made by some students and teachers together. They show English you can use if you feel unwell.
"I have a ~." We can use this sentence to say our symptoms (症状) in English.
"How are you feeling today?" "I'm ~." We can use this sentence to describe our feeling or mood.
Let's try them next time you visit the Nurse's Office.

Funglish Class (October 22nd, 2024)
Hello everyone. Here is an update from our Funglish classes. Today we had 1st and 3rd grade classes.
1st Grade
Today 1st grade students did a speaking activity. We studied 3単現 "s" and "does." The students introduced a character of family member to each other and asked questions.
3rd Grade
3rd Grade students did a direction giving activity. They looked at a map, read instructions, and figured out the goal station for subways in Osaka.

Funglish Class (September 19th, 2024)
Hello everyone. Here is an update from our Funglish classes.
Today we did a speaking activity in the 3rd year classes. We learned the phrase "I have a sore throat." We can use "I have ~" to describe our symptoms when we are ill.
This speaking activity had an information gap, and then students tried to give advice using "You should ~."

English Speech Contest Assembly (September 5th, 2024)
Hello everyone. Here is an update about Minami-Chu Funglish.
Today, we had a morning assembly in the gym. It was hot. The topic was about the Tomioka JHS English Speech Contest. We have two students going to the contest from Minami-Chu. They performed their speeches for the school.
Great job to our two English Speech students. You did a great job.
They have been practicing very hard. The speech contest is on September 10th. Please cheer for them.

2nd Grade Funglish Time (July 12th, 2024)
Hello everyone. This week, again, we had Funglish Time. Today we talked with the 2nd grade students.
Once again, teachers from Takase and Nukabe Elementary Schools came to join our lesson.
We played Rock Paper Scissors Train again.
Then we had the Station Activity. This week we used leveled-up questions for the 2nd grade students' English skills. The students did a great job talking to teachers and each other.

1st Grade Funglish Time (July 4th, 2024)
Hello everyone. This year, once again, we are having Funglish Time at Minami JHS.
We have guest teachers from Takase Elemenary and Nukabe Elementary. They gave us self introductions.
Then, we played the Rock Paper Scissors Train game. Students play Rock Paper Scissors, ask each other English questions, and then form a train.
After that, we did a station activity. Each teacher asked students a different question. When they answer, they go to the next teacher.
The students spoke very well and we had a lot of fun! Next week, the 2nd grade students will do it, too.

Funglish Class (June 14th, 2024)
Hello everyone. Here is an update from our Funglish classes.
Today, the first grade classes practiced 命令文. "Wash your hands." "Don't run here."
We played a gesture game. Students did the gestures for a 命令文, and members of their group guessed and said the sentence.
Everyone did very well, gestures and saying English sentences. Nice!

Funglish Recess (June 12th, 2024)
Hello everyone. Here is an update on our Funglish activities.
We are enjoying Funglish during the 昼休み on Wednesday. Today we played a game from America called "Spin the Bottle." We spin a bottle in a circle and ask a question to the person who it points to.

Funglish Class (June 3rd, 2024)
Hello everyone. Now it's June, and it's getting hot like summer. Here is an update from Funglish class.
Today's post is about a 1st grade class. The 1st graders reviewed the phrase "What time is it?" The setting of this lesson is "talking to a friend in a foreign country." Students chose a foreign country and searched for the time, then had a conversation with partners.
We "traveled" to many cities today! Good job everyone.

Funglish Class (May 30th, 2024)
Hello everyone. Here is an update from our Funglish classes.
3rd Grade
Today, the 3rd graders did a conversation lesson. We practiced the phrase "Would you like a...?" (...はいかかでしょうか。)
The setting of this lesson is a McDonald's. The students roleplayed as customers and cashiers. The cashiers recommended food using "Would you like...?" The students talked in small groups.
They also practiced a little math to calculate the order totals. We also reviewed "Could I have a ...?" from last year. "Could I have a smile, please?" Very nice conversation, everyone.

Funglish Recess (May 1st, 2024)
Hello everyone. Today, we started a new activity for Funglish at Minami JHS. It's called Funglish Recess. We will do activities using English during 昼休み each Wednesday.
Today, we played a shiritori game on the blackboard. About 30 students came to participate. It was very exciting!
We will continue doing some fun things like listen to music, watch videos, and practice conversations! I hope many students will join again.

Hello everyone. Here is an update from our Funglish classes. Today we have updates from 1st and 3rd grade classes.
1st Grade
The first graders started Unit 1 of the textbook. Today, we practiced giving 自己紹介 (self introduction) in English.
"Hi. I'm Ken. I'm from Takase Elementary School. I'm good at baseball.
3rd Grade
The 3rd grade students are practicing questions using "Have you ever~?"
"Have you ever ridden a camel?" "Have you ever played the drums?" We practiced writing sentences and played a battleship game.

Funglish Class (April 23, 2024)
Hello everyone. Here is an update from our Funglish classes. Today we had fun activities in all three grades.
1st Grade
Today 1st Grade students practiced saying numbers in English. We read from the textbook. Then, we played a board game called Snakes and Ladders. The students were excited and enjoyed it!
2nd Grade
The 2nd grade students practiced using new grammar today. "Is there a bed in your room?" "Are there windows in your room?" "Yes, there are!" They drew pictures of their room. Then, they asked each other questions.
3rd Grade
3rd grade students are learning to talk about experiences. "I have cooked takoyaki three times." "I have visited Tokyo many times." They played "2 Truths and 1 Lie." They wrote sentences about themselves, but one is a lie. Then, they shared in groups and guessed which sentence is a lie.

Hello everyone. Here is an update from Funglish class.
In 1st grade classes, we are practicing writing romaji. We played shiritori on the blackboard using romaji words.
Each team wrote many romaji words and they were all in correct romaji. Great job, everyone!

Hello everyone. It's a new school year. We are continuing to enjoy Funglish at Minami Junior High. Here is an update from a class today.
2nd Graders started a new textbook today. We will read and talk about Anpanman. We did Small Talk. The question is: What Anpanman character do you like?
"I like Rollpanna. Because she is very cute." "I like Anpanman. Because he is kind."
Very nice Small Talk, everyone. Let's study hard again this year.

Funglish Class (March 22nd, 2024)
Hello everyone. Here is an update from our Funglish classes.
Today, we did a listening and speaking activity in the 2nd grade classes.
The setting is an amusement park. Students listened to the guidance announcement (場内アナウンス)and answered questions in their textbooks.
Then, they did a fill in the blank worksheet and read their own original announcements to each other.
Great job everyone! Your skits were very interesting.
Now both 1st and 2nd graders are finished with their textbooks. Great job this year, students! Let's enjoy Funglish again next year.

Hello everyone. Here is an update from our Funglish classes.
Today we had a 1st Grade lesson. We read the story "The Crow and the Pitcher" together. Students read and guessed how the crow drank the water. Then, they thought about the moral of the story together. We talked and shared our answers.

Hello everyone. Here is an update from our Funglish classes.
2nd Grade
In the 2nd grade class, today's conversation was about talking on the phone, and inviting a friend to do something.
"Would you like to go to a movie with me next Sunday?"
The students used "cell phones" made of cardboard and pretended to call each other and suggest things to do.
